CREATING A PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIO
Your have been shooting pictures for years! People are asking you to show them your work. You are ready to start approaching museums, galleries, and/or publications. With Jo’s help you will be able to narrow down your images to put together a portfolio that will display only your best work. Participants will need to bring at least 50 important images to be considered for a final portfolio. Jo will cover all aspects of putting together a cohesive body of work from the artist’s statement, image selection, sizing, and printing in preparation for the final portfolio.

USING YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA
You have a new digital camera or you have one that you really don’t understand! This workshop will cover the different camera functions, with an emphasis on learning how to control, your camera under the supervision of your instructor. Each student will have a private session with Jo on the second day. Bring your camera with a fully charged battery, camera cable and your manual for this two-day workshop
JO BRENZO majored in Photography through the Fine Arts Dept. of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and taught at Bellas Artes (Mexican National Art School) in San Miguel de Allende for the past 13 years. She established and teaches at the Academia de Fotografia in 1995. She has taught and exhibited her own work throughout the US, Europe and Latin America. She has been working with digital images for the past several years, but continues to have a strong commitment to creating traditional photographic images.

BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS
AT BELLAS ARTES
This is a five-and-one-half day intensive class designed to help students learn how to take control of their cameras. The goal of this class is to have the students understand and be comfortable with their cameras. This class is open to students using either SLR or digital cameras.

Robert de Gast can take the mystery out of the technical aspects of photography and teach you how to see, compose, and translate the people and places around San Miguel into remarkable photographs. An experienced, award-winning magazine photographer, lecturer, and columnist, he is the author of nine books (The Doors of San Miguel, Behind the Doors, etc.). Robert is a patient teacher who enjoys sharing his passion for photography and his years of experience. Choose a private tutorial or a day-long photo safari to unique nearby locations: the ghost town of Pozos, or picnic in the abandoned ruins of churches and chapels in the surrounding campo, or join a photo-shoot in the fascinating colonial cities of Querétaro, Dolores Hidalgo, or Guanajuato. The hands-on experience will expand your talents and your confidence while enriching your visit to Mexico.
INSTRUCTOR: ROBERT DE GAST, a native of the Netherlands, is an award-winning professional photographer, author of nine books, and a resident of San Miguel for nearly a decade. His photographs have been published in major publications, including Smithsonian, National Geographic, Harper’s, The New York Times, and many others.

Learn how to add color to your photographs. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with both old and modern techniques using oils, pastels, watercolors, pencils, etc. In this hands-on-class participants will be able to work on imagery ranging from the traditional to the conceptual. All materials will be provided. You are welcome to bring and work with some of your own fiber based prints and/or digital prints.

PHOTOGRAPHIC TRANSFER CLASS
Using images whole or in part, let your imagination create new meaning using the photo transfer process. The source of images is endless: photographs, graphics, books, and magazines. Working with photocopies, images can be transferred onto paper, mat board, wood, fabric, etc. Students will explore the different techniques of working with transferred images using paints, pencils, pastels, and collage along with other materials. No previous art experience necessary.
